Pearl South Pacific Hotel, FIJI

The Pearl South Pacific Hotel has just been completely refurbished. It's located on absolute beach front about 1 hour from Suva. The hotel has fantastic facilities including a pool with beach bar and an 18 hole golf course. The Pearl is also home to restaurants including the Bistro and Mantarae. Mantarae Restaurant has great views of the ocean and serves up a contemporary menu and excellent wines. Guests can also have a relaxing drink in the Lounge Bar or party the night away at Giselles nightclub. The resort can also organise activities such as snorkelling, diving and rafting.

If you are looking to experience the less well known side of Fiji, then take a rafting adventure with Rivers Fiji. They offer a range of rafting and kayaking trips both in the Fijian highlands and in the ocean. You can also visit highland villages such as Nakavika in the Namosi Valley and see the traditional Fijian way of life. The Namosi Valley means the 'valley of pain', named by the village chiefs as it was one of the last areas to put their weapons down and stop cannibalism.

Rivers Fiji can help you to explore the amazing gorge of Upper Navua and the Navua River. This exciting, full day rafting includes lunch, morning and afternoon snacks, juice and soft drinks. The first rapids you meet on the trip are the class III Boulder Garden which has been given the name Bula, a typical greeting in Fijian, a fitting name since the rapid is a true welcome to the whitewater challenges that lie ahead. The length of the journey is approximately 23km and 12km of this is spent in the Gorge. The walls of the Navua Gorge are as high as 50 metres but often as narrow as 7.

There is no road access for the entire length of the trip so there is a sense of being very remote, plus participants need a certain level of fitness. This part of Fiji is totally unlike the Fiji mostly seen in brochures. It is dense jungle, extremely narrow canyons and a river intermittently rapid then deep and still. Along the way, especially during the wet season, you will pass more than 50 waterfalls (some people say as many as 70), and more than a dozen rapids. At the exit the gorge is a beautiful waterfall which is perfect for a refreshing dip before continuing on the last 5km's. This excursion will take you through some of the country's most beautiful terrain in the comfort of inflatable rafts.
