CLICK HERE for the recipe that Aristos prepared at Adamis Restaurant in Athens.
Starting in Athens, the capital of Greece, Aristos uses his local knowledge to escape the hustle and bustle of busy city life and embarks on a food filled day of adventure.
The destination is the island of Aegina, just a 40 minute ferry ride away, and then it will be back to Athens for dinner.
The day on Aegina starts with a stroll behind the Neo-Classical buildings that line the waterfront and where local delights can be tasted.
At Aegina's Homemade Bakery the Spinach and Cheese Filo Pastries will cost around $2.50. Made using a recipe for filo pastry recipe that has been in the family for five generations the pastry is wonderfully light and crisp.
A 15 minute motor scooter ride away is the quiet beachside village of Agia Marina, this is the perfect place to sit back and enjoy more good food and a cold beer. For a more direct route to this patch of paradise you could catch a ferry straight from Athens.
Don't leave Aegina before trying some of the island's famous pistachios. You can get them almost anyway you like - straight from the shell, in honey, in sesame, whatever you desire.
Back in Athens Aristos heads to the Adamis Restaurant - this restaurant serves the food that the ancient Greeks were eating more than 2000 years ago.
Working with head chef, Dimtitris, Aristos makes a banquet fit for a king.
Even a simple salad is a divine creation incorporating garden rocket, cabbage, celery, asparagus, eggs, pine kernels, nuts, raisins and vegetable bulbs. The best part for those who can't travel to Greece is that all ingredients for this traditional creation can be found here in Australia.
