Positano, ITALY

With its charming pink, cream and yellow villas stacked on the side of a cliff, that is quite a fitting description.

Ever since the 1960s, Positano has been a refuge for artists.

If you feel the need to quench your creative urge, the Parlato family runs two-hour Italian ceramic courses. You can paint whatever you want but if you want to stick to tradition, then it's birds and fruit.

After you set down your artwork, take a stroll through Positano's maze of alleyways and no doubt you'll be drawn to the sparkling blue of the Mediterranean. There are six-hour boat trips out of Positano, which allow you to lap up the breathtaking scenery.

Lunch is a separate adventure. While you are there you may be lucky enough to get a fish from the local fisherman, but if that's not the case then head to the Ristorante Da Teresa where you can enjoy more than a dozen delicious Italian dishes.
