Kenya, AFRICA
Airing Date: Jan 1st, 2002
Kenya, Africa is home to a truly special two-day wildlife safari where the babies come in jumbo sizes.
The journey starts at Lake Nakaru National Park, where a mind-boggling number of pink flamingos have gathered at the lake, creating quite an amazing sight.
From there, the driving safari takes you past no less than eight different species of animal - including lions, baboons, rhinos and zebras.
Here's an interesting fact about zebras - the animal's stripes are just like a human fingerprint in that no two are the same.
The final stop on day one is Lake Navaisha Country Club, an hour's drive from Lake Nakaru. There are huge acacia trees, which shade the old colonial house, and it's also where you can get a delicious buffet, included in the cost of the tour.
Day two of the tour gives you the option of jumping on board a motorised long boat for a tour of Lake Naivasha, which is three times the size of Sydney Harbour.
For a small cost you can get up close to the 'hippos' in the lake to witness their crazy toddlers and all the other amazing wildlife that surrounds you.
Finally, head to Nairobi and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, about a 10-minute drive from town. This is where orphaned baby elephants are hand-raised and visitors are welcome for one hour each day. There is no admission fee but a small donation will get you up close and personal with the baby jumbos.
