Rasa Ria, BORNEO
Airing Date: Nov 22nd, 2004
The resort's rooms are beautifully furnished in earth colours and natural wood. They are all equipped with a phone, central air-conditioning, in-room safe, colour television with satellite news and in-house movies, tea/coffee making facilities and refrigerator. And each guestroom has either a view of the sparkling South China Sea or of the rich rainforest.
But it's the location that sets this Shangri-La resort apart from the rest. Borneo's wilderness is right on your doorstep, with thick jungle, birdlife and friendly orang-utans swinging around.
The resort looks after several orphaned orang-utans, and you can watch them being fed twice a day. The toddlers are hand-raised and eventually weaned off human contact before being released back into the jungle.
It usually takes a couple of years for the orphans to be released, and during that time, guests can get right up close and meet these distinctive animals.
While meeting the orang-utans is usually the highlight for visitors, the resort is also an ideal destination for sports enthusiasts, with a variety of activities available from golf to aqua sports. Some activities are complimentary, and others cost money - a lot in some cases! The resort's 18-hole championship course costs $92 a round.
Whether you choose to go on an organised snorkelling trip, relax on the sand under a swaying palm, or take a horse ride along the beach, you'll find yourself enjoying every moment of this magical resort.
