With the introduction of the Whale Submarine, divers and non-divers alike can enjoy the enchanting beautiful coral reefs and magnificent tropical fish from the comfort of the world's largest passenger submarine!
Descend to 130 feet below the ocean surface and witness ocean life and other treasures, sights once only seen by scuba divers.
Boasting a 100% safety record worldwide this is a must experience for every visitor, an excursion only available in very few parts of the world.
The German built Whale Submarine is one of the newer attractions in town - actually it's just outside town located on a floating dock between Male and the island of Viligili.
The adventure starts with a short boat ride (10 mins) to the submarine dock - the "Whale House' where visitors can enjoy a drink before boarding the sub.
The submarine takes a few minutes to get to its dive spot - then descends to about 40m. Passengers can gaze out through large lens like portholes where a variety of fish come very close to the windows, attracted partly by food that is dispensed by the sub.
There's an excellent view of smaller creatures too such as lionfish and anemone fish. The sub goes very close to a reef wall, and its lights illuminate crevices and show up colour that normally wouldn't be visible in natural light.
The tour runs up to 8 trips per day including 2 night dives.
