Mauritius is known as the 'Gateway to the Indian Ocean' and is located approximately 2000 kilometres to the south eastern coast of Africa and 800km east of Madagascar. Though nestled up alongside Africa, it's actually more influenced by its British and French ties and predominantly Indian workforce

- Grand Bay, which was the first area of the island to fully experience the tourist boom. - Recently renovated, La Cuvette beach is well worth a visit.

- The wonderful Pereybere public beach is popular because of its shopping facilities, restaurants and pubs.
- Balaclava Ruins, which were named by 17th century sailors after the many tortoises in the area, and the original sea walls whose initial foundations were laid down by Mah de Labourdonnais.

- The Triolet Shivala is the longest village on the island, and offers an opportunity to visit the biggest Hindu temple, the Maheswarnath, built in 1819 in honour of the Gods Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, Brahma and Ganesha.

- The Labourdonnais Orchards house a large variety of tropical fruit trees, colourful and perfumed exotic flowers. Trips on mountain bikes and hiking is possible.
