Queenstown, NEW ZEALAND
Airing Date: Sep 1st, 2006
New Zealand is recognised as a world class skiing destination and Queenstown has got to be its action capital. Queenstown has more than 100 bars and restaurants and 200 activities to get the adrenalin pumping!
If budget unlimited, then heli-skiing is a great way to experience Queenstown's excellent snow. After a helicopter and mountain safety briefing, a helicopter will take you over the amazing scenery to land on your first ski run.
The runs from the top are extremely long, sometimes lasting an hour, so you'll have to be an experienced skier. If skiing isn't your thing you can catch a Snowmobile (even beginners can do it!) with Nevis snowmobile Adventures.
They depart from Queenstown Airport on a 12 minute exclusive helicopter flight over the Remarkables Mountains to land at the Base Camp on the Old Woman Range.
If your budget is not up to heli-skiing or travelling by snow mobile you can still get a stunning view of Queenstown from the viewing platform at the Skyline Gondola.
Luxury accommodation begins with the Matakauri Lodge located on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, just 10 minutes drive from Queenstown. Matakauri lodge is set on ten acres of native bush and has 4 Villas and 3 Suites.
For something a little more affordable visitors can stay at the backpacker style Discovery Lodge. This property offers dorms as well as double private rooms.
