Woodlyn Park, NEW ZEALAND
Airing Date: Mar 13th, 2006
Located 2 hours south of Auckland near the famous Waitomo Caves is Woodlyn Park. Here you will meet one of New Zealand's more unusual characters, Billy Black.
Billy is the star of his own show 'The Billy Black Cultural Show', an entertainment experience showcasing the kiwi culture through sheep shearing, exploding logs, and a dancing pig!
Woodlyn Park features a jet boat course that was built in 1995-1996. With a course about the size of a footy field it is the only drive yourself jet boating in NZ with jet boats over 100 horsepower.
Drivers get seven laps of the track, first 2-3 working it out next 2-3 smiling as they get the hang of it. The drivers are timed on the last 2 laps when they are getting good at driving, and think they need a V8.
The accommodation here is also very unique. You have a choice for bunking down in a 1950's Bristol Freighter Plane fully refurbished into 2 beautiful self contained motel units.
This plane was one of the last allied planes out of Vietnam and is the only accommodation of its type in the world.
Or jump aboard The Waitomo Express. A 1950's Rail Carriage beautifully refurbished into a completely self contained motel unit. Having 3 separate rooms, the Waitomo Express sleeps up to 6 people.
Or if you want to feel like you're stepping into a movie why not try the worlds first Hobbit Underground Motels with circular windows - straight out of middle earth!!! Built alongside the now well established Train Carriage and Aeroplane Motels, the Hobbit Hotel adds yet another dimension to this unique complex.
