Day three of the trek goes from the village of Alola Creek to the campsite at Templetons Crossing. The 10 kilometre walk also incorporates visits to historic battle sites along the Track.
Trudging along the Track is sweaty business, so its important to keep your fluid levels up and drink at least 10 litres of water per day. There are plenty of streams offering some of the purest water on earth to fill up the drink bottle along the way.
Four hours into the third day, the Track winds its way into Eora Creek Crossing, a great spot to rest up and enjoy lunch. As part of the tour each hiker is supplied with three dry pre-packaged meals a day.
After almost 10 hours of trekking on day three the Track hits Templetons Crossing, another World War II battleground full of sombre memories.
The landscape surrounding the Crossing is very steep and the army found it very hard at times to get the wounded soldiers out.
In response to the situation Australia commissioned many of the local tribesmen as stretcher bearers. These local heroes became known as the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels, and formed a reputation for being the kindest of carers. Many of the porters who work on the tour today are the sons and grandsons of the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels.
On the fourth day the Track crosses Mount Bellamy. At 2000 metres, Mount Bellamy is the highest ridge on the Track and just a touch smaller than Mount Kosciuszko. After crossing the mountain, the trek ends in the village of Nadoori.
Andrews tip for trekkers is that by the final day of the trek, your body will have become acclimatised to the conditions and youll be able to appreciate the scenery more. This is one of the most beautiful virgin rainforests in the world with lichen, ferns and trees that go right up to the sky.
