Isle Of Mull, SCOTLAND
Airing Date: Jan 1st, 2002

The Isle of Mull is one such place.Located about two hours' drive from Glasgow in Scotland, the island is home to some of the most breathtaking views Scotland has to offer. It is also a 45-minute ferry ride from the mainland town of Oban and travelling by water offers a great way to soak up some of the beautiful scenery.Mull is a large island, so it will take a few days to drive around. While public transport is a great option for day trips, car hire is more suitable for longer visits. One of the first places to visit is Duart Castle, which has been the ancestral home of the Maclean clan for more than four centuries. Sir Lachlan Maclean is the present owner of the castle and he is a hands-on clan chief who loves meeting visitors. From the top of this castle you will also be able to see a second castle called Torosay which, with its 60 rooms and majestic gardens, is also well worth a visit. The beauty of Mull is that you will discover charming villages filled with traditional shops and ancient crafts every few kilometres. The main town, Tobermory, is a fishing village, which is characterised by its brightly painted buildings that stretch in a horseshoe around one of Scotland's most picturesque harbours. If your intense shopping has worked up an appetite, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to visit. Specialities include fresh scallops straight from the ocean and beef from the highland.
