Are their monsters in the deep?Mention the words "Loch Ness" and the mystery of its resident monster Nessie is sure to spark some interest and intrigue...Is there really a monster down there, hiding in the dark depths of the famous loch?
Perhaps one of the most famous names from Scotland, the Loch Ness monster is well-known all over the world. And there's nothing more intriguing than a long-standing legend, a myth, and a mystery that is surrounded by "theories" that no-one can provide an answer for.
If you're looking for good clues and evidence though, a great place to start is at the Loch Ness 2000 Exhibition. Based at Drumnadrochit, this exhibition shares scientific findings that are explained in user friendly terms for all to understand. Visitors are invited to weigh up the research results, eye witness accounts, fact & figures, along with recent scientific discoveries, and make up their own minds about Nessie's existence.
Loch Ness is Britain's largest body of fresh water and it holds more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined! To get closer to the all the action, Jacobite Cruises take tours out onto the loch explaining more about the mysterious creature that many believe to lurk in the waters. Tours also take in the other sights of the area such as Urquhart Castle - fantastic ruins situated right by Loch Ness.
If you're keen to go in search of Nessie, it's a great base for exploring the Scottish Highlands. Scoobycampers have cool retro wheels to self-drive the stunning highlands. They've restored 1970 vintage VW campers and fitted them out with all the mod-cons such as DVD players and satellite navigation so you don't get lost amongst all the lochs and glens and can get on with discovering this part of bonnie Scotland!
