Boschendal is a 45 minute drive out of Cape Town and has the second oldest wine farm in South Africa. The best way to see this farm is by bus as there is 15 'Barossa Valley's' in the Cape wine region.
Boschendal is in Franschoek, the French corner. They make 65% white wine and make 3 million litres a year on their 2,000 hectare farm. For $7 you can see where the wine is grown, where it is kept and what it tastes like, the tour ends up at the foot of Mount Simonsburg. While you are there make sure you try the Boschendal Savignon Blanc as it is meant too be the best in all of South Africa!
Not far away is the Stellenbosch district and the Spier Wine Estate is an entirely different estate. Spier is anything but an average winery; it's got a hotel, conference centre, horse riding, swimming pool, markets, shops, a kids' club and an extravaganza on every other day of the year. For $6 you can work your way through the amazing wine list including the Pinotage wine which is unique to South Africa.
Spier's not just about tasting wine, it's about getting a taste of Africa! It's a must to visit the Cheetah Outreach Centre where you can see and touch the cheetahs. You can spend 5 minutes with these endangered animals that have been brought up in captivity and the funds go to help protect cheetahs in the wild.
Next door to the Cheetah Centre is 'Eagle Encounters' where they have a Black Eagle which is the second largest Eagle in Africa. At the Eagle Encounters they try to release every bird back into the wild. For $7 you can get up close to the birds including the secretary bird and the barn owl.
