Phinda Game Reserve, SOUTH AFRICA
Airing Date: Feb 20th, 2006
Africa's Phinda Private Game Reserve is situated in the lush Maputaland region in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Phinda meaning 'The Return' in Zulu, comprises 17,500 hectares (43,240 acres) of prime conservation land.
There are seven distinct habitats that are home to an abundance of wildlife including Africa's Big Five of lion, leopard, elephant, black and white rhino, buffalo and over 380 bird species. The reserve also boarders the World Heritage site of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park.
While staying at the reserve people can look forward to exciting game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles led by experienced rangers and Zulu trackers. There are also a number of optional activities including walking safaris and those on water, in the air and on the beach.
Phinda Zuka Lodge is an intimate and exclusive-use Lodge that is surrounded by densely wooded hills and lush valleys. It is located in the western region of Phinda where, in what was a triumph for CC Africa's conservation endeavours, fences were dropped after protracted negotiations with neighbours, increasing the Reserve by 3,500 hectares (8,650 acres).
There are four thatched Zululand bush cottages, which overlook a busy waterhole. As part of a stay at Zuka guests receive a private ranger/host, tracker, butler and chef and sole use of an open 4x4 safari vehicle.
