The train trip takes you through the beautiful Andalucia region, which houses 670 kilometres of breathtaking scenery full of age-old villages and cities.
All the carriages on the train were built between 1928 and 1930 and there is a bar, and two restaurants on board. Each day, the scenery changes as the train pulls into different towns and there are seven stops in total. With only two-and-a-half hours of travel into the first day, you will pull into Cordoba with its fascinating blend of Roman, Islamic and Jewish history.
There are guided tours available, which are all included in the price of the package and the highlight is the old Jewish quarter with its maze of narrow streets and plazas.
Day two and the train pulls up in Granada, a town set beneath the stunning Sierra Nevada Mountains. The town was the last Islamic stronghold in Spain until the Christians took hold in the 15th century. The main attraction in Granada is the Alhambra, which is a massive fortress perched on a hill overlooking the town. It has soothing terrace gardens and patios and fountains, and was once used as a summer retreat by the Sultan.
Luckily, the accommodation on the train is nothing short of first class. The standard cabins all come with shared bathrooms and the Club cabins with separate en suites. All meals are included in the package and the meals are traditional dishes from the region that you're in.
