Art and culture are central to Madrid life. The city has 73 museums that cover all fields of human knowledge. Madrid's big 3 or "triangle" of museums - the Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen - are conveniently located on the Paseo del Arte (Avenue of the Arts).
For lovers of shopping, Madrid will not disappoint. Shopping for Madrilenos is as much about seeing and being seen during the paseo (the stroll) as buying itself. There are five main shopping areas in Madrid: Salamanca, Chueca, Centro, Princesa and Cuatro Caminos.
