Ice Hotel, SWEDEN
Airing Date: Nov 20th, 2006
This year is the Icehotel's 17th year of operation and they continue to carry the title of the world's biggest hotel made entirely of ice and snow.
From its modest beginnings as a single room thirteen years ago, Icehotel has grown to 5,000 square metres built of 30,000 tons of snow and 4,000 tons of ice.
The Icehotel is -5 degrees Celsius indoors. If the outdoor temperature falls below -30, then it may be -8 inside, but not colder!
If you're wondering if you'll be able to sleep well - the answer is of course! When guests check-in to the hotel they are given a guided tour which also takes in what you need to do in order to sleep well at night.
Concerned about using the bathroom? The hotel has ordinary toilets. These are in a small house which is incorporated into the Icehotel construction so you can step directly through a door from Icehotel into the warm and comfortable Ladies' and Gents' rooms.
At the end of April or the beginning of May, the Icehotel is closed for the season. Artists from all over the world are invited to work on the hotel for the following season with new designs each year.
