An insider's guide to BangkokToby Wilcock is one of the 1 million Australians who have chosen to make another country his home. Toby's been living in Bangkok for 3 years and while he has assimilated into Thai culture and way of life he still holds on tightly to his Aussie roots selling barbeques to both Aussies and Thais alike. Toby knows this part of the world well so much that he hosts a "what's on" segment on a television show right in Bangkok.
Toby finds that a great way of getting around town is by taking the ferries, it cuts the travel time in half and costs very little, compared to the busy hustle and bustle of the roads. Another great trick is to take Motorbike taxis, as they can skirt around the traffic, rather than sitting in it.
Suan Lum Night Bazaar is a market in Bangkok's Pathum Wan district, at the intersection of Rama IV and Wireless/Sathorn Roads, opposite Lumphini Park at the Bangkok Metro's Lumpini station. The Night Bazaar is open from 3pm to midnight, with some shops open until later. It has vendors selling gifts, clothing, jewellery, fruit, compact discs, hand-made products and fine arts, such as paintings and sculptures. There is a large beer garden, with an array of food available, and live entertainment. On the other side of the market there is a quieter area with many restaurants offering both inside and outside garden seating.
Finally, one of Toby's favourite place to go to is the swanky hip 'Bed Supper Club' in Bangkok. Thursday nights is models night and it gains momentum around 930pm onwards. Everything inside is white.
