Four Seasons Tented Camp, Chiang Mai, THAILAND
Airing Date: Jun 19th, 2006
If you've yearned for adventure, and have wanted to discover the mysteries of the Golden Triangle (but in a little bit of style), then unique activities at the brand new Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle await you from the moment you arrive in a traditional long tail boat.
Set amid Thailand's exotic bamboo jungles, where three countries meet, you'll find a one-of-a-kind experience at this luxury location. Here, you will be trained to drive and trek an elephant through Thailand's tropical jungles, hike on mysterious mountain trails, venture on a river excursion down the mighty Mekong and discover the cultures of hill tribes. On the Camp grounds, winding pathways overlooking steep embankments, a suspension bridge 18 metres above a verdant valley and secluded accommodations allow you to experience the magic of a natural forest environment.
15 free-standing tented accommodations spaced at a comfortable distance from each other allow total privacy. Built on elevated ground along a one-kilometre hillside trail overlooking the Ruak River, Burma, the mountains of Laos or the jungle and Golden Triangle, each tent is designed as an open space with a large outdoor deck. The furnishings and decor are reminiscent of 19th century adventure expeditions with handcrafted furniture, hardwood floors, mosquito nettings and hurricane lamps.
A luxurious king-size bed takes up one side of the tent, while an old-fashioned, 2-person; hand-hammered copper bathtub stands in the middle of the room. A sundeck with a day bed, 2 massage beds and an outdoor rain-shower add to the old-world charm. Each of the 15 tents, named after local hill tribes, fauna and flora, shares a common layout, but is uniquely decorated and furnished in individual colour schemes with coordinated furnishings. The Camp has its own elephants, with elephant training provided by experienced mahouts and elephant camp coordinator
Guests will learn how to take care of, command and drive an elephant, and go on a jungle trek. In custom-designed river boats, guests can also cruise the Mekong River, stopping at villages and temples along the way to explore the environment. There is also a stop at a Laotian border town. Depending on the weather and season, other activities include jungle trekking, riverbank picnics, nature walks, bird-watching, fishing, cooking classes, opium trade history talks, visits to hill tribes, day trips to Laos and Burma, yoga and spa treatments.
