Koh Lanta on a Budget, THAILAND

Airing Date: May 26th, 2007

Ideally situated in the growing southern Thailand province of Krabi, Koh Lanta has grown from an 80's backpacker haunt into a new hot spot in South East Asia.

It's part of a marine national park boasting some of the best snorkelling in the world, plus it has some of the cheapest places in Thailand to stay and eat.

Sala Dan

Although it's the biggest village on the island, it's relatively small with just two streets. The street along the water has most of the restaurants, while the street extending inland has most of the banks, convenience stores, and travel agencies. The village gets a fair amount of business during the day when the boats arrive/depart but is fairly slow at night.

Muay Thai Boxing

Thai Boxing or Muay Thai is a martial art thousands of years old. Different from Western-style boxing it includes kicks and punches performed with elbows, knees and feet.

Lanta Gym is located on Koh Lanta at the west coast of the island approximately 500 metres from the beach on the hillsock. Lanta Gym has everything you need to train in Muay Thai including a fitness-center.

The gym is open daily from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. In this time there are fully qualified trainers taking care of the customers teaching traditional Muay Thai. Lanta Gym welcomes students of all levels, including females and children.

Koh Rok

It is precisely because of their remoteness and their inaccessibility to the Ao Nang and Phuket crowds, that the twin Koh Rok islands are probably the best snorkelling spot in the south Andaman Sea. Perfect, pristine corals, in clear, shallow water, with huge amounts of tropical fish, await those who take the 45-minute ride from Koh Lanta. It feels as though you are swimming inside a giant aquarium. Koh Rok is part of the Koh Lanta National Marine Park and the islands themselves are stunning.

Laguna Beach Club

Laguna Beach Club Koh Lanta, is located right at the beautiful and popular white sandy "Klong Dao Beach" on Koh Lanta.

They offer accommodation of various styles for individual holiday travellers, from standard bungalows with lush gardens, to luxurious penthouses with unique sea views overlooking the Andaman-sea and Phi- Phi-islands. All together there are 33 units.

Established in 1997, Laguna Beach Club Koh Lanta is very well known for it's natural and stunning Thai-baroque-style architecture embedded in a tropical 10.000 sqm garden with private beach front.
