The amazing south central Alaskan coastline of the Prince William Sound features some of Alaskas most stunning glaciers.
The best ways to explore the glaciers is onboard a custom-built ice cruiser. Prince William Sound Cruises depart from the port of Valdez daily from mid-May to early September.
As the cruise begins, youll be welcomed by some of the locals - a group of harbour seals. This small cluster of seals belongs to a bigger pack further down the track, and theyre not shy about giving you a very loud hello.
After some calm cruising, the water becomes a little icy, then turns to a sea of ice, all of which is the tip of the iceberg beneath. If you're sailing on an overcast day, look out for the tips of the iceberg, which often turn blue. This is caused by the reflection bouncing off the water, giving the whole landscape a surreal glow.
Another point of interest is the Columbia Glacier, Alaska's second largest tidewater glacier. About 5kms wide and 60kms long, the glacier is roughly the size of Los Angeles, and an amazing sight to see.
