Apart from being a magnet for all things relaxing, Byron Bay attracts the crowds for other reasons too. Surfers tame the swells south of Cape Byron, while music lovers make the pilgrimage to the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival over the Easter long weekend, and Splendour in the Grass in July.

Coming and Going

The closest airport is Ballina, but most people use the larger Coolangatta airport on the Gold Coast. A range of bus companies stop off at Byron Bay, with the most common trips being from Brisbane (3hr), Coffs Harbour (4hr), and Sydney (12-14hr). For a more scenic journey to Byron, hire a car and drive along the coastal Pacific Highway.
