Holbrook is a rural town of some 1500 people south-west of Sydney. Within driving distance to the Murray River and Dora Dora State Forest, Holbrook is an ideal stopover for people travelling from Melbourne to Sydney.

Holbrook, once named Germantown, is in the centre of a productive pastoral district. The renaming of the town came about during the First World War when the strong anti-German feelings required by law the renaming of the town. The township was renamed Holbrook in honour of Lt. Holbrook who carried out an extraordinary act of bravery against a Turkish Warship. The town proudly displays a collection of submarines including the B11, of 1914 Dardenelles fame and HMAS Otway, a 90-metre submarine.

Holbrook has an ever increasing array of interesting retail outlets including Cafes, Antiques, Curios as well as more necessary items. The Woolpack Inn Museum has a wonderful collection of historical items displayed in a former hotel on the Highway, and with a wonderful collection of transport vehicles, a working blacksmith forge, a former cordial factory and more.

The Holbrook Races are held the first weekend in April each year, and attracting thousands of visitors to town as part of the Holbrook Festival.

Holbrook is also the centrepiece of one of the most successful Landcare programs in Australia.
