Overview

Australia's largest optical astronomy research facility is located at Siding Spring, about 28 km west of Coonabarabran. The exhibition & visitor centre, Siding Spring Exploratory, gives the visitor an understanding of the universe and night sky. Visitor Centre has also a science gift shop with astronomy related souvenirs. Visitors can enjoy scenic views of the Warrumbungle Mountains from the observatory lookout.

Please note that Visitors are only able to visit Siding Spring during certain times: Mon - Fri 9.30 am - 4 pm, and Sat, Sun and Public Holidays 10 am - 2 pm. Siding Spring is not a town or village - accommodation is available either in the Coonabarabran area or the Warrumbungle National Park (camping).
