Overview

Historic Yass Valley has its own unique charm and country friendliness. It is conveniently located just 3 hours drive from Sydney, 6 hours from Melbourne and 40 minutes from Canberra. No matter what you come to see and do in Yass Valley one thing is certain, you will receive a warm, genuine country welcome.

During the early 1800s the natural beauty and superior agricultural land of Yass district led famous poets and explorers including Banjo Paterson and Hamilton Hume to settle in the district. Today, the main street is brimming with architectural treasures reminiscent of early settlement days.

Many of the wonderful heritage features of Yass Town are best seen on foot. Whilst walking down Comur Street you can browse through the antique shops or stop for a cup of freshly brewed coffee in a cafe.

Located just 5 minutes from Yass you can visit National Trust property Cooma Cottage which was once the home of Hamilton Hume or you might like to venture further afield to the internationally renowned studios of glass artist Peter Crisp.

Yass also has many rural and adventure activities including horse riding, paragliding, waterskiing, mountain biking, wild caving tours and abseiling. You can even go on a fossil fossicking tour and stay at real working fine wool merino sheep farm.

Burrinjuck Dam was built in the early 1900s as a water storage system for the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. It is a popular attraction and offers cruises, watersports, fishing, camping and bushwalking. The surrounding Eucalyptus forests boast an abundance of wildlife including kangaroos echidnas and rosellas, some of which can be hand fed.

Yass district has a wide range of accommodation styles ranging from four star hotels, bed and breakfasts,hideaway cabins in remote wilderness areas and camping.
