Overview

The Bulloo Shire covers a vast area of Outback Australia in an area traditionally known as "The Forgotten Corner". Bulloo Shire, covering 74,000 square kilometres, is one of the most sparsely populated regions of Australia. The industries include beef, wool, opals, oil and gas.

The desert landscape can be both desolate and breathtakingly beautiful. There is extraordinary diversity from brilliant blue waters of the salt lake Wyara in Currawinya National Park to the red sand hills edging the Cooper Creek flood plain in the far west. The area also offers a diverse variety flora and fauna.

Thargomindah is the main town in the Shire. There are two other towns - Hungerford on the Queensland/New South Wales border and Noccundra, 140 kilometres west of Thargomindah.

The tiny outposts of Cameron Corner where the borders of Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia meet is the most isolated community in the Shire.
