Overview

Situated in Eyre Peninsula's central wheat belt, Poochera had its beginning as a small service town for the surrounding pastoral community. The township was not surveyed until 1920, and its name is believed to be of Aboriginal derivation.

The township may be an ideal stopover point on your journey along the Eyre Highway and has a hotel, caravan park, bowling green, golf course, oval, tennis courts, and roadhouse.

The prominent Gawler Ranges, offering excellent panoramic views of the central plains, and ideal for camping, are situated some 30 kilometres east of Poochera. The area has recently discovered the dinosaur ant - previously thought to be extinct!
