Overview

Thevenard is a great place for spotting international ships as they stock up on grain, salt and gypsum from across the west coast. A small fleet of fishing boats also share the bay, in search of whiting, snapper and other seafood for the town's fish processing plants. the small and friendly town has a seven day supermarket, takeaway and a hotel.

According to the map reference in the book Gulliver's Travels, Jonathon Swift's fictional character Gulliver met the tiny people of Lilliput on islands visible from Thevenard Lookout at Pinky Point. These are the islands of St Peter and St Francis, first recorded by Pieter Nuyts and Francois Thyssen aboard the Gulden Zeepardt in 1627. See the islands and discover other local history on a walkway (complete with interpretive signage) from the sailing club to Pinky Point.
