Skiing is understandably popular in the cool climes of Finland, with numerous cross-country trails and downhill resorts catering to all levels of ability. Boating can be enjoyed on both fresh and salt water, though like hiking, canoeing is most enjoyable during the summer months. Rafters make a beeline for the wild rapids in Lapland and North Karelia.
