Looming like some great ship off the southernmost tip of Spain, the tiny British colony of Gibraltar is a heady compound of curiosities. To the ancient Greeks and Romans, it was one of the two Pillars of Hercules, set up by the mythical hero to mark the edge of the known world.
Gibraltar has a comfortable climate throughout the year. Winter temperatures average between 11°C (52°F) and 16°C (61°F) and summer gets up to an average of 27.5°C (82°F) in July and August, but otherwise the temperature hovers around 20°C (68°F).
