Kris Madden is an award winning travel journalist and consultant with more than 20 years experience in the tourism industry. For the past seven years she has focused specifically on eco and sustainable tourism and is the founder of Eco Media Group.
Her articles have appeared in numerous Australian and international publications including The Australian; Sydney Morning Herald; The Age; Sun Herald; and Australian Traveller, amongst others. She is currently the NSW Editor for the travel trade magazine Traveltalk Asia Pacific.
She is also a contributor to a number of books, including Lonely Planet's 'Code Green - Trips of a lifetime that won't cost the Earth'; the National Geographic Adventure Atlas of Australia; and Insight Guides.
In 2007, she was named Travel Writer of the Year Trade/Industry by the Australian Society of Travel Writers and won Best International Story under 1000 words the same year.
Kris has a Master of Applied Science in Communication Management; and is a member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers and Foreign Correspondents Association
She also works as an expedition leader and guide and undertakes pro-bono work for the Australian Himalayan Foundation; Wildlife Tourism Australia and the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA).
She has travelled to more than 40 countries and is passionate about responsible travel and the development of sustainable practices in the tourism industry.
When not travelling or writing, Kris can be found in her sanctuary on Sydney's northern beaches, planning her next big adventure.
