Since Melissa Seymour was about 9 years old, she started to show signs that she had entrepreneurial qualities. Seymour's first business was a lemonade stall, complete with a bucket of lemons on the ground that she would cut up and squeeze into a jug of water. What she loved the most though was putting together the point of sale material - cardboard signs, taped to telegraph poles with signs to the stall which would be out the front of the house. She charged about 5c for a cup!
The second business (after her lemonade store) Melissa founded was the Model Agency Pure Management.
The agency devised an event to search for new models. The event was called style.xpo, working with Arena TV and Cleo Magazine to bring the concept to television and print media with great brand partners like Jockey and Schwarzkopf secured as sponsors. Having grown the business over 5 years, she accepted an offer in 2004 to sell.
Melissa then went on to start up a Marketing Communications Agency L'umiere Communications.
To date, the agency has worked with brands like Motorola, L'Oreal, Jeans West, Volley's, Ruggers, William Rast (Justin Timberlake's fashion label) and Myer. Their ideas saw them work directly with The Black Eyed Peas, Ksubi, Chloe Sevegny and a bunch of other local and International names.
L'umiere Communications is also responsible for the recent success of blog site www.melissaseymour.com. Here followers can read and watch Melissa Seymour's daily musings on travelling with family, fashion and currents affairs. In addition, L'umiere secured a multi faceted promotion of the site with Yahoo!7 Travel, My Child Magazine and Bub Hub.
Beachmour is also one of her other businesses, where they offer luxury private residences available for holiday rental, in sought after destinations around the world.
Long ago Melissa identified a lack of relevant resources available for women in business. So she decided to write the book 'Girl's Guide to Turning Your Idea into a Business' while taking time out to have her second child.
Following on from the books early success, Melissa is currently working on her second book for Pan Macmillan.
On top of being a mother of two (Jonah 7 and Saskia 2), an entrepreneur and author Melissa also shares a business with husband AFL commentator Brad Seymour in Hyams Beach. The Hyams Beach Cafe is located on the NSW South Coast which recently underwent a refurbishment. The Cafe/Restaurant is under new Management, with the operations overseen by Brad and Melissa.
As the Seymour family travels the globe together Melissa will be providing tips for those who are brave enough to travel with young children. You can follow her here at Yahoo!7 Travel or www.mychildmagazine.com.au/ and www.melissaseymour.com.
