Indulgent weekend of food and adventure

It's slow food at Jenolan Caves
By: Lisa Wolff, Yahoo!7 Travel

In our rapid paced, go-go-go lifestyle, it's no wonder that fast food has become another meal group. However, weekends are time to relax and unwind so there is no need to grab a burger on the fly.

There's even an international society that supports taking time over meals. 'Slow Food' originated in Italy in 1986 in an effort to recognise the importance of pleasure in connection with food. This worldwide movement encourages followers to 'slow down' and savour and enjoy what we are eating, as opposed to today's norm of scoffing fast food.

Now, let's combine a weekend of delicious 'slow food' with the awesome Jenolan Caves adventures and you've got a must-do activity.

From 30 May - 1 June, Jenolan Caves will showcase 'slow' foods from the delectable local produce of the surrounding Blue Mountains, Oberon and Bathurst regions during its Jenolan Indulgence Weekend.

The spectacular long lunch will be the indulgent feature of the weekend. It will be held in Caves House grand dining room, Chisholm's restaurant. Other attractions include additional special Caves tours, and an underground Cave performance by Classique, featuring strings and Australia's multi-award winning baritone, Stephen Fisher-King.

Classic and vintage motorbikes, cars and buses will be on display, and guests can refresh over a hearty traditional Devonshire tea, featuring premium locally made jam and cream.

Peter Austen, Director of Jenolan Caves Trust said, "We are excited to once again hold our second annual slow food celebration at Jenolan Caves, and encourage everyone to experience local produce and the magic of the Caves across the many activities on the weekend."

"The Jenolan Indulgence Weekend is one of many new seasonal guest packages we have planned for this year, and we will showcase more new accommodation packages to our guests throughout the weekend," he continued.

To end their indulgent experience, guests can attend a Chisholm's traditional Sunday lunch.

The weekend will also be spotted with food and cooking demonstrations, including local produce market stalls on Saturday 31 May, where visitors can ponder, purchase and breathe in the fresh country air and also the scent of locals roasting chestnuts.

Guests will also tour heritage-listed Caves House and experience the popular spine-tingling torchlight tour of the underworld, Legends, Mysteries and Ghosts.

Sounds very tempting, doesn't it. Click here for more info (pdf flyer) or visit the Jenolan Caves website.
