Serbia is a landlocked country at centre of the Balkan Peninsula, in south-eastern Europe. Open for tourists all year round, this rapidly changing country has beautiful national parks, ancient monuments, a wild nightlife scene and one of the best ski fields in the Europe, Kopaonik.

Tourism in Serbia mainly focuses on the villages and mountains, but the cities do have a lot of offer. Key tourist destinations include the mountain ski resorts of Kopaonik and Zlatibor, the intriguing rock formations at Đavolja varoš, and Vrnjačka Banja, the most popular spa town in Serbia.

If you want to experience some of the history and culture of Serbia, you’re in luck. Points of interest include Lepenski Vir, an archaeological site dating back to 7000BC; Đurđevi stupovi, a 12th century monastery near the city of Novi Pazar; and the Cathedral of Saint Sava, in Belgrade.

The centre of Belgrade is relatively compact, and quite easy to navigate on foot. If you’ve got a bit of time on your hands, a visit to The National Museum is hugely rewarding. Belgrade's bustling centre is the Kneza Mihaila, a cafe-lined boulevard running through the old town.

Serbs are warm people, especially towards tourists. Most people speak English, although the older generations are more likely to speak German or French.
